More a question than a comment. Years ago I visited the wall near Hexham and was puzzled by the fact that what appeared to be the joining of different sections of the wall. The sections were the same width but were offset from each other. A tourist guide from Hexham suggested this was due to navigational errors in the building of the wall. ! A joke surely? Can you explain the purpose of these features?
