Hadrian’s Wall Guides is the comprehensive illustrated website for the Northern Frontier of Roman Britain.
There are over 70 Roman Forts and Towns, most of which are covered in this site, including the twenty forts on or close to Hadrian’s Wall. All have a separate guide.
Hadrian’s Wall Visible Remains covers the Wall in eight Guides covering all visible remnants over the 73 miles of the Wall, with galleries to provide additional illustrations
There are articles on the history of the northern Roman conquest, the Wall (its purpose and how it was built) and on all the legions in Britain. The site has 1400 pictures and illustrations.
The site is now too large to publish as a book

We have largely completed our initial Hadrian’s Wall objects. As our knowledge increased the importance of the forts north, south and west of the Wall becomes more significant. It is wrong to consider the Hadrian’s Wall in isolation. It became part of an in depth defence system controlling the communications running throughout the North particularly in the 3rd and 4th centuries.
Hadrian’s Wall Guides as become the definitive source for the serious visitor.
We will be adding more to the site, which will include a more detailed history, an analysis of the civil communities, religion and information about ancillary units, which were the backbone of the Wall.
Many Wall websites contain information, which is highly misleading; great care has been taken to verify the information here. There are now links to other Wall sites, to videos and information on the Wall’s history, added into the individual guides.
As you will see, you cannot separate Hadrian’s Wall from the rest of the Northern Frontier, but it remains its centrepiece.

More information will be added as we examine other sites and additional aspects.
